Yoga in Black

Matthews Yard: Lounge

As part of TF18's intention to promote mental wellbeing, Yoga in Black offers Dru yoga sessions with a metal, gothic, drone, doomjazz, dark ambient twist.

The soundtrack by various artists will be pre-recorded with some pieces specially composed for the day. Expect big sound, sound teachings: a workout for your mind, body and ears. It will be intense, magickal and fun!

Dru yoga features the use of visualisation and affirmation in its practice, and these workshops engage imagery from pagan, Voudon and Thelemic traditions to invoke a sense of inner strength and peace.

Morning sessions are free to TF18 day ticket and festival pass holders, or on a pay-what-you-can donation basis.

Kieran Wakeman - Festering Under Tortured Skin

Matthews Yard: Gallery

A series of photographs/photo manipulations titled ‘Festering under Tortured Skin.’ The title relates to my struggles with Anxiety and Depression and are all self-portraits.

Creating artwork for me has always acted as escapism from my depression and it’s also been a way for me to take these feelings that build up inside myself and to make them into something tangible that I can see, which from a young age helped by acting as a coping mechanism.

This exhibition is FREE.

Natalie Wearden - SELKIE SKIN

Matthews Yard: Gallery

Felt (1)

A kind of cloth made by rolling and pressing wool or another suitable textile accompanied by the application of moisture or heat, which causes the constituent fibres to mat together to create a smooth surface. - Oxford English Dictionaries (2018)

Something about the sea. A general muddle of yearning and un-belonging. Heading north.

Joseph Morgan Schofield - L'Ariete

Matthews Yard: Gallery

Pull back the turf and you will find my bones. Resting in peaty Pennine earth, I find some measure of peace.

Buffeted by fierce wind, made wet by heavy sheets of rain, caught on barbed fences, I am exposed and free. Up here grief makes sense. Up here I feel again.

I yearn for this sensation, dream of it, fantasize about it. Through L’Ariete I am navigating an experience of dislocation, of loss, of grief. Materials are at once metaphors for this experience and, simultaneously, fragments of it. The figure of the Ram is a totem, a memory. The bones are stand ins for the bones I cannot reach.

Marie Ségolène - The Eye of The Rib

Matthews Yard: Theatre

The EYE OF THE RIB is a multidisciplinary performance, that involves projection, sound, tape recording, live reading and ritualistic gestures.

The performer butchers a lamb with a variety of surgical tools, while reading a text in dialogue with a pre-recorded tape.

The writings deal with themes of trauma, desire and violence, through a combination of personal narratives, historical facts and academic quotes. The result is a fragmented dialogue, that accompanies the viewers through states of confusion, repulsion and attraction.

Joseph Raven - Prepared

Matthews Yard: Theatre

This interactive performance contains a series of modified butt plugs. Always sculptural and gracefully schizophrenic, each sex toy will embrace a different mood, from poignant to playful. The actions and objects are designed to enrapture rather than repel, in an effort to demystify the anus.

Leif Elggren - It is said that no King is a King if no one is looking

Matthews Yard: Theatre

"you know that little idiot telling truths telling me telling you that where the sewer ends there is a pot of gold, that there is no way of escape, that there is no electricity anymore, only just like a vague dream of something past, of something almost forgotten and that we have no time to bother, yes there are other basic needs that have to be taken care of before we can dream and start everything all over once again, yes"  - Leif Elggren: That Little Idiot Telling Truths, Firework Edition, 2015
