Kieran Wakeman - Festering Under Tortured Skin

12pm
Matthews Yard: Gallery

Wakeman will be exhibiting a series of photographs/photo manipulations titled ‘Festering under Tortured Skin.’  The title relates to my struggles with Anxiety and Depression and are all self-portraits. Creating artwork for me has always acted as escapism from my depression and it’s also been a way for me to take these feelings that build up inside myself and to make them into something tangible that I can see, which from a young age helped by acting as a coping mechanism.

This exhibition is FREE.

Katarina Rasic - Memory traces on the skin

1-8pm
Matthews Yard: Gallery

What is a scar? Is it an experience or a memory? Does it transform us? Trying to capture the fragility of our memories, Rasic will examine the idea of the scar, both physically and mentally. Using the permanency of the tattoo and impermanency of scents combined in a ritualistic practice, Rasic invites visitors to mark her skin. Each mark will connect with another, forming a continuous line around her waist.

Richard James Hall - AUTOS/FLECTIONS

6pm
The Front Room

The performer stands in a room, windows at the side.
Walking to the windows, the performer grabs a handful of lipsticks.
As they arrive at the window, they see their reflection.
As the performer applies their lipstick, a disembodied voice emerges.
As the voice begins its dialogue, performer and reflection kiss.
As the dialogue continues, so does the act of kissing.
As time passes, lipstick colours both lips, body and glass.
The disembodied voice. The body present. The reflection of body.
All being fragments of AUTOS in a state of reflection.

luxul

7pm
The Front Room

luxul’s performances utilise an electric viola, a smorgasbord of effects pedals and the artist’s voice to create a meditative, cacophonous and often chaotic output that is ritualistic and primal.

One of the key underlying principles of the whole endeavour is that nothing is utilised as it should be. The viola is beaten, scratched, abused but seldom ever “played”. It serves frequently simply as a microphone to amplify a voice which is screamed, roared and growled.  Each performance is improvised and created from scratch often with minimal forethought, relying primarily on the feel of the moment and atmosphere of the location.

Clive Henry and Yol - Strobed

7:30pm
The Front Room

short small performances in confined spaces - limited audience - total darkness - we cant see them they cant see us - or each other - until strobe light bursts triggered by noise bursts - stop start loud noise - EVERYTHING IS FRACTURED

This performance is for a small audience and will run for 10 minutes at a time.

Mother Disorder - Crystalline

8pm
The Front Room

As a response to societal pressures to be functional when neurodiverse and consequently the process of therapy for mental disorders, Crystalline questions adaptive and maladaptive trait definitions. In an environment where the value of a person is entwined with productivity and permitted mindsets are homogenised to fit within a capitalist framework, therapy can be a sanctuary; a release from life-altering attributes and an opportunity to become a part of a world that was previously inaccessible. However, are these attributes deemed inherently negative due their counter-productivity worthy of such deep personal change? Relief from the pains of mental disorders is paramount but who decides the benchmark of recovery? In Crystalline quartz crystals become an avatar to traits; alien yet organic, pointed yet static, a subject of beauty and of horror.
